After completing 31 years of service the work sphere of Sangha has increased manifold. During this year Sangha’s service is rendered at 7 village centers’ in 7 districts of West Bengal covering a population of 98,720 of 20,699 families in total 71 villages.
Health awareness
i) Home Visit – It has occupied the most important position of our Sangha’s activity. Though it was started with the small beginning long time back and we had enough struggle to sustain it and to develop it for all these years. But how Home visit by Community Health Guides (CHG), on totally voluntary basis from the villages is unthinkable for any other organization we come across so far. Vivekananda Swasthya Seva Sangha is proud to have 141 CHGs whose relentless work round the year by visiting 9436 families has covered.
ii) Slide Show/CD Show – Through Mobile Health Care Unit arrangement of slide
show/CD show is made and as the picturization goes on the subject matter is
elaborated in simple language to the villagers, which has been very popular
these days. This year through slide show/CD show 2444 Nos.
of people have been given health education.
iii) Mothers Meeting – Mother is the key person of any family and if
mothers are given proper health education that is sure to reflect in the health
status of the whole family and in turn
the whole village. This year through 570 Nos. meeting 2991
No. villagers has been given health education.
iv) Group Meeting – This type of meeting is also conducted by MHCU. In this meeting the villagers, in general, are given health education in a very attractive way like story-telling and naturally such meetings become very popular. This year through 570 Nos. meeting 2991 No. villagers has been given health education.
v) Training of CHGs – The main ingredient of service providing system of
VSSS for health awareness at rural area is the CHGs, who work in grass root
level completely on voluntary spirit. This year we have organized CHG
convention on 15,16 & 17 August, 2014 at Salt Lake where 90 CHGs were
attended from various centre.

ii) Adult Education
Centre – For the
last several years VSSS has seriously taken
up
the mission of spreading adult literacy. Understandably adult literacy is
essential
for integrated development of village. This year we have enrolled 75 students under 4
adult education centres in different districts.
iii) Non-formal School – This non-formal school was started at Chunpara
village in Lalgarh where we intended to open of an ECE school.
Socio-economic Development –
i)
Tailoring –
This project started at first at Khanpur during 1999. The six-month Tailoring training
programme is still going on keeping in kind that trained women may be
self-dependent and can earn something of their own which may give her social
security. This year 18 Nos. of students has undergone training.
ii)
Computer Training – This training has
been very popular for last few years. With the help of Sree Sarada Math, Rasik
Vita this training is imparted to the local youths in minimum cost non-commercially.
For its growing popularity few more computers have been arranged. During 2014-15
- 42 Nos. of students has taken admission and 30 students have completed the
training.
iii) Haranegheri Project – Haranegheri project has become a new challenge for
VSSS. Though we have been trying to give some support to the local tribal
people for economic upliftment for a long time but during December, 2007 we
have taken up a specific objective of empowerment of female members of this
tribal community through integrated development in a time bound manner. This year a total no. of 38
beneficiaries have since been empowered through 4 groups formed in the name of
a) Lakshmishree, b) Saraswati , c) Ma Sarada, d) Nivedita.
PREVENTIVE PROGRAMMES -
This
is one of the our prioritized schemes, planning and implementation of which
takes shape from the outlook of prevention of diseases. Normally this programme
is planned after commencement of treatment of disease by VSSS. In fact our
rural health prevention programmes are based on WHO’s recommendation of eight
criteria for primary health care in the villages. For last 31 years these
activities are being carried out in a
sustainable manner resulting in remarkable change in the average health
condition of villagers in our service area.
i)Family
Welfare programme : This program under Preventive and Promotive
services of the Sangha was carried out through door-to-door Home Visits by our
village CHGs.
ii)RCH – Following WHO and Govt. of Indian guideline VSSS has also taken up RCH as one of the important programmes of preventive and promotive activities. Our Mobile Health Care Unit takes an important role on this RCH programme and it is getting popular day by day.
CURATIVE SERVICE - This is an important and sensitive area of our health
care service. We started this scheme in the beginning and through this scheme
only we have developed confidence and faith among the villagers. Although we
give more importance today on preventive and promotive services but for all
these 31 years curative service has never lost its relevance. This scheme is
organized by two ways –
ii) MHCU – Sushila Birla Memorial Institute is a renowned Charitable Institution. Late Sushila Birla was a social worker and he son Sri Sudarshan Birla in fond of commemoration of his mother, has donated a Mobile Medical Unit in 1989.
